BD Barcelona - Design since 1972
BD has been a trailblazer in the design world for over half a century. Founded in a nightclub in 1972 by a group of young architects and designers from Barcelona, BD entered the design scene with a revolutionary vision: to produce and market their creations and those of their peers with complete creative freedom. Starting with designs by Ettore Sottsass and Alvaro Giza, BD ignited a curiosity about design, bringing international recognition to Spain's design scene. Many of these pioneering pieces remain iconic today.
Fifty years later, BD Barcelona has evolved into an international design company under new collective ownership—Apartment Magazine, Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, Igor Urdampilleta from Arquitectura-G, and Hernan Cortés. These architects, publishers, and designers, along with one of the founders, Oscar Tusquets, continue to nurture BD's original nonconformist spirit. They celebrate the diversity of the world and its values, maintaining their independence as a company to support their creative intentions. BD is now broadening its design dialogue, exploring diverse realms of creativity in design and beyond.
